Autism Spectrum Disorders Clinic
Pediatric Neuropsychology Clinic has developed a specialized autism clinic. The goal of the clinic is to provide a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, but more importantly, to equip families with the knowledge to be able to make informed decisions about their child’s treatment.  Every child with autism is unique with different treatment needs. It is my goal to build the bridge between assessment and intervention and to help families navigate the journey by providing parent training targeted to help parents better understand the ways to support their child’s development. 

Dr. Sporri has been in the field of autism for over 15 years, working in many settings. She has a Master’s degree in Special Education and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in neuropsychology. After working at the University of North Carolina, Division TEACCH for several years as a Psychoeducational Therapist, Dr. Sporri moved to California. Once in California, she recognized the lack of parent training in autism and developed a Parent Training Series.  Her current focus is on integrating assessment and treatment while continuing to provide training for parents to help better understand autism and how it impacts their child.

AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS CLINIC
  • Diagnostic and Psychoeducational Evaluation  - This evaluation includes a detailed developmental history from parents; gathering information about your family, your family history of medical and developmental disorders, developmental or cognitive assessment, and an evaluation of your child’s social development through observations, interactions and play. The evaluation includes a parent feedback session after your child’s diagnostic evaluation. We will discuss diagnostic impressions and treatment recommendations, with an emphasis on helping you understand your child’s learning profile. 

  • Neuropsychological Assessment – This is a more comprehensive assessment that includes the above mentioned areas in addition to many of the following areas including cognitive ability, adaptive skills, attention, language, executive functioning, memory, motor ability, visual-spatial and visual-motor ability, academic skills, and socio-emotional functioning. The evaluation includes a parent feedback session after your child’s diagnostic evaluation. We will discuss diagnostic impressions and treatment recommendations, with emphasis on helping you understand your child’s learning profile. 
  • Parent Training Series (PTS) – The goal of the parent training series is to teach parents about autism and ways to support their child's development in everyday life. The PTS provides an opportunity for parents to learn ways to teach their child at home (i.e. communication, social skills, self-help skills) and to manage behaviors effectively. PST helps parents become informed advocates for their child and to understand and evaluate the variety of autism treatment services available. Sessions are time-limited and are typically scheduled once a week, typically for 4-8 sessions.  
  • School Consultation -  This is designed to help integrate assessment and education. The goal of school consultation is guided by the needs of the child but may include consultation services, attend IEP meeting, provide teacher training, or to help design a behavioral program with the child's teacher to help with academic productivity. 
  • Social Understanding Group -  groups designed to help children with ASD learn age appropriate social skills and better understand the complexity of social situations.
